Dorothy M. Aldrich

Dorothy M. ALDRICH of New Hyde Park died on February 18, 2012. She was the beloved wife of Herbert Aldrich and mother of Mrs. Elizabeth Aldrich Gillespie (Philip). and grandmother of Claire Gillespie.

For many years Dorothy was a loyal member of the congregation of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Carle Place, and a long time member of the Board of Directors of Episcopalians for Traditional Faith.

Her gentle, modest way masked the wonderful contribution she made to her church and to Episcopalians for Traditional Faith. In recent years physical impairment prevented her from regularly attending Church and she regretted this cruel condition. Prior to Dorothy’s death a good friend of hers, Bill Kogler, St. Mary’s lay reader and sacristan received a note on Dorothy’s stationery and in her handwriting. It was dated February 10, 2012, and was to be read at the next Sunday’s service:

“Happy New Year-
Hope 2012 will be the year I get to Church-
Love,
Dorothy”

She did get there, though ironically it was on an occasion when she was surrounded by her loved ones at her funeral service at St. Mary’s. Dorothy had asked that her body be interred with a copy of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, the use of which she had fought so valiantly to preserve for so many years.

She is interred at Cypress Hills Cemetery.  Contributions in Dorothy’s memory would be welcomed by Episcopalians for Traditional Faith www.etf1928.org/ and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at Carle Place, www.StmarysCarlePlace.org
